Free MTT experience
by lsutiger » Thu Mar 16, 2006 2:46 pm
I have been playing the WSOP free qualifiers to get more experience in playing MTTs (especially against donks). Anyway, this hand came up and I put the villians on their respectvie hands (and still went broke - thats why these freebies are fun).
Anyway here it is - I would like a critique.

Too aggressive this early on? I would think so, but again, I am using these to learn. If I win that, I have a good stack that I can sit back on and cruise...top 50 move up to the next level. Either way it is experience.
Anyway here it is - I would like a critique.

No, I don't think your raise is too big at all. I think it's just right. Reraising to 3x the original raise is a good amount to let someone know you're serious. The argument for just pushing is since the 3100 raise is more than half your stack, you're probably going to go the rest of the way anyhow, so why not stick it all in with the best of it. The reason not to is because 2000 chips is a good stack to work with when the blinds are 50/100.
You said it best.....it's a freeroll. Everyone is acting differently than they would if a buyin was involved.

Just push the flop, it's makes things easier. The fact that this is a freeroll makes it all the more right move to do. Q9 isn't going to fold regardless, but I think pushing elimantes all the other bullshit.

i'd push since you have tens. you wouldn't mind winning the hand right away and there are way too many cards to hurt you. if you had a bigger pair, i'd call the flop and push a safe turn. then you can make sure you are a bigger favorite before commiting everything. the reason i push the tens and not a bigger pair is because of overcards.
your raise on the flop leaves you in a very bad spot on many turns. you are almost sure you are beat, but the pot is over triple your stack, so you really can't fold.
