Is it just me? PP big money MTT's

Of late, I've stopped playing the PP freerolls and have been burning my points on qualifiers to the $500K events. I've also been following the endings of the actual $500K events, as they seem to end at about the time I'm winding down for the night. I don't know, I guess I'm having fantasies of winning 125K, quitting my job, etc. Maybe a midlife crisis, but that's for another thread.
Well, here's what I've noticed:
2-3 weeks ago, before the JJProdigy/ZeeJustin firestorm, I looked up the $500K event's final two tables, and at least 3-4 of the guys at one of the tables were chatting--they clearly knew each other. The play seemed fairly sophisticated, too, with a lot of stealing/re-stealing/aggression. My overall impression was that I wasn't quite ready for that level of play.
Fast forward to last night. I was again watching the FT of the $500K after getting my AA cracked by JT at the qualifier. There seems to be a different level of play entirely. Some very, very tight play from the short stacks. Then a guy raises from ep, gets re-raised from the blind, and calls for all his chips with A7o (???). And this type of play was not unusual. It looked more like a $11 SnG than a huge $ MTT.
Anyway, this makes me wonder: has the multi-tabling purge made the competition a little lighter for making big money at these types of events? I just wonder... Any thoughts?

I've seen a lot of final tables too, and I have found that generally they *At best* play like a $33-$55 STT.
2-4 people are usually out instantly.
Then the better players outplay, and beat or get sucked out on, the weaker players.
Then it's pushbot time, then HU.

Well unfortunately my attention starts to wander after about 2 hours. I notice after the 3rd break, my play definatly has deteriorated and I find myself making stupid plays left and right. Not even the adrenalin of getting close to the end can restore my mental function. I've been trying to limit my sessions to an hour or 100 hands and it seems to be helping the ring games. But I don't have that option in tournaments. Just an idea for a possible contributing factor.
