a bit slower than party between hands, and especially after the first hand of a new table. i think it's the time it takes to load the hand history in the priview hand history option.
other than that, less tables at various limits than party. though it's catching up.
i love the VIP program. great stuff you can get just for playing. it's almost like rakeback.

getting started at PokerStars
by dead reckoning » Wed Jan 18, 2006 4:35 pm
I consider poker stars by far the best site. I did the whole play money thing for about 4 months until I felt I was ready for the real thing.
I put in 50$ and started playin the penny tables .01/.02 NL. Playin two or three tables at time I was able to build my bankroll up to 600$ in about 4 months.
I've been playin doing bonuses on about 10 other sites. (Party, Empire, Full Tilt, Ultimate, Poker Room Golden Rivera, ect.)
I still feel Poker Stars will always be my home base and where I got my start, and find myself always coming back there to play.
(lets just hope them being sold dosn't change all that much)

This is one reason why I'd always recommend Stars to beginners. The .01/.02 NL is very easy because nobody cares about the money. If you do, you can make a decent amount...every time you flop more than top pair you might be able to get someone's whole stack regularly. The people who play there are either just dicking around or they're higher stakes players who recently busted out of their STTs or whatever and are $1-$3 short of a buyin so they so to .01/.02 and hope to get lucky.

i think stars has equaled or even passed party in members on during peak hours. stars has had over 100k members on similtaneously almost everyday over the last 2 weeks. however a lot of those members are probably playing micro limits which party doesn't offer.
once you are even semi-decent i think party is the way to go for ring games. there are more tables at anything higher that .10/.25. and also since this is the lowest limit on party, the players here are the worst party has to offer. where the worst stars has to offer plays .02/.04 and such.

I got burnt way too many too times raising with the best and losing ...I know happens all the time everywhere on the net... its internet poker..
It's a personal thing and I prefer playing on other sites looking for bad players to play against. Again It's my opinion .
do these many others that agree with you on the sucker hand theory also wear tin foil hats? Also what is the difference between internet and real poker, does the dealer spot that 2 action hands are about to be dealt and cancels the hand in the real world?
What is with these conspiracy idiots, 52 cards randomly distributed (aka shuffled) in an deck of 52 before the hand is dealt, thats poker, online or in the real world, deal with it!

I'm about to make the switch from this play money crap to the real thing, and I'm really looking seriously into Poker Stars. I just have a question about hand histories. I really like the way Full Tilt lets you save all your HH's on your computer, but I see you have to request HH's after the fact on PS. Is this the only way to get HH's?

I am also starting to love PS. Their 3 +.40 Turbos are a goldmine. Wait for your hand and double up.
calgoing - you can configure PS to save HH's to your hard drive in real time (well, almost - it is written when the hand is over with). Go to the Options -> Instant Hand History Options... menu item to configure it however you want. Then use PT to import it while you are playing to get semi real time stats on your opponents.

Thanks, Mewsic. It's good to know I can save my HH's. I may use some sort of software to check my opponents' stats, but I've seemed to do well without it so far. I sort of just go with my gut. Let's just see how well my gut goes when real money's on the line.

Just watch it...real money is different, even at the small stakes. Take it slow until you get the hang of it. And seriously think about investing in Poker Tracker.

I'll think about it, but the times I've played limit at casinos I've done pretty well. I think fixed HE and the SNG's are my game, so if I stick to those, I should be fine. I'll keep Poker Tracker in mind, though.

-EV moves are my specialty.
If I start losing a lot of money, I'll get PT, but I've played well at the casinos without it so I think I can play without a net. I'm fairly good at seeing who's passive or aggressive and what they push with just by watching 'em.

I am assuming you single table. Anything more and PokerTracker is a must if only for it's tracking capabilities.
