well i lurned how to play in a study group at college. the have been may things that i have found helpful in my poker playin, but i think the retard study program helped me the most. we wood play for munny and my teachah wood winn most times, my aces never seemed to beat his foors. he taught me to bluff alot and that really helped me although i wood always need to call my mom foor moor lunch munny. i allways liked my teacher even though he beat me at poker all the time, he was a big influence on me in between shock treatments.
as far as the best poker book i have red it would have to be it would have to be poker for dummies. since everyone always calls mee dummy it was perfect. i lurned about the fold and call buttons i saw there picture and my teachah drew them on the table. that really helped me to press a button. i reelly look forward to the freerole and beatin you guys. i bluff a lot and think i can win.
Was that a SERIOUS POST I just read?
If it was, then you must be 10 YEARS OLD! Either that, or the BIGGEST FUCKING IDIOT I've ever encountered! Don't take this the wrong way. I'm not the type of person that goes out of my way to insult people. However, if you SERIOUSLY believe that post was good enough to get into our freeroll, you're DUMBER than I thought!
I haven't been a member of this forum very long, but I can now understand why so many of our "veterans" are DISGUSTED with these FREEROLL WHORES who ONLY JOINED to play in our tournaments at Titan!
I hope I'm speaking for everyone when I say- THANK GOD you IDIOTS aren't going to be able to play in any FUTURE TOURNAMENTS!
I respect the game of poker, and my opponents (unlike A LOT of people I encounter). However, if you've got the education level of a DONKEY (interesting word- that applies to most of their POKER PLAY as well
), you should find something else to do with your time (LIKE READING A FUCKING BOOK, OR GETTING AN EDUCATION!)!
This HAD TO BE a joke post, and if it, I'M SORRY for not getting the joke.
If, HOWEVER, it was serious, then I've made my point felt, and you should find another hobby (if you CAN'T SPELL, or put a SENTENCE TOGETHER, then I'M SURE you can't calculate pot odds or be very good at poker either!
)!

You must answer the following question:
What is your favorite poker book that you have read and what did you learn the most about the book that has helped your game? If you haven't read a book, then explain how you learned to play good poker through other means.
I HAVE NEVER READ A POKER BOOK OR WATCED A MOVIE TO LEARN
i have been watching poker on tv sence i was 16 now 19
i have gotten better from practice practice practice and knowing the odds

Ok, thread now unlocked. Thanks to everyone who made a nice post about what they liked to read and why - or those who posted why they haven't picked up a book and what they've learned.
To those who didn't get a password, nothing against you, but was looking for more meat to the post if you didn't get one. A one liner or short reply doesn't show a lot of effort to enter something completely free.
Good luck to everyone.

I have never read a poker book. But I grew up in a close-nit Italian family and in my city you didn't have a gambling game of any kind without my grandfather's consent and giving him his percentage. And at the ripe old age of 6 years I was around gambling. And as the grandson of "Joe the banker" I saw the best and the worst and they were all eager to show me their chops in order to impress my grandfather.
The best all had similar traits, they watched the oppenent for consistent tells, they watched them look at the cards before looking at their cards, I always remember that glancing at chips was a huge tell.
I remember to never ever chase, and to always keep the player you fear the most to your right and the player you plan on busting to your left.
When you come to a table look at who has plenty of chips and who keeps them loosely stacked and keep them to your right so that they can't reraise on you. And if you follow these rules with patience and discipline for the right cards you have a huge advantage.
And finally never bet all your chips unless you can count that no hand can beat you. This is gambling and when you don't count the possible outs then you are leaving the random element out of the game and thats when you end up on the rail, or worse from a professional gamblers point of view, having to get a real job to build a new nest egg.

poker book
by yangstauwm » Tue Jan 31, 2006 4:33 pm
hmm. honestly i dont think i have read an actual bibliography poker book. I have read and skimmed strategy books and odds book about poker. how i really learned to play poker by the rules are from investing time and money. but if anything new i have learned are reading forums, online strategy post, and rants from post. well im a usuall poker player offline, but when i comes to online poker i usually have to use my sense on how fast or how long the person is to make a bet. i guess what i really learned from forums are the time someone spends looking at a pot before betting.

Well, I never actually have read a poker book in my life. I just learned poker by playing it and watching the WSOP. I first got into poker watching the WSOP and the WPT. I saw how players bluffed, slow played, and just all the bad beats that occured, which really didn't excite me much about poker. Then I saw my friends playing it online and I thought to myself, why not try it out. And that is how I've gotten where i am today with getting into poker and learning the game by playing online poker.
