Party's cruise tournys this weekend.
by dw » Wed Jan 04, 2006 8:09 am
Hi,
I got a $34 freeroll (S&G) for signing up with Party. I won it, and it paid my entry to the $270 + $30 PP Millions Cruise tournament this weekend.
What should i expect? I haven't really played many tournaments. I stick with ring, and S&G's.
The handfull of tournys i've played, have been on Stars where it seems everyone is going all in each hand. I know this isn't a re-buy, but the structure is a little different that Stars? Less chips, and blinds are faster so you need to make more moves?
I'm a decent player, but no tournament knowledge what so ever. I've done a bit of reading but its all the same- wait for big hands. Well, by the time big hands come i have no chips.
I've won the $400 mini step a few times since signing up. But i guess any moron can make money from S&G's, by sitting and waiting.
I'm just looking for ANY tips/advice. I just don't want to mess it up too badly.
Thanks!
D

Maybe play in a few smaller regular MTT's on Party (not the rebuy ones as that is like you said a different beast all together) before playing in this event, get a feel for them before playing in the one that counts.

Eh... yes and no. Normally this is great advice and I would say the same thing, but you're on a very tight schedule. You need some Party Poker tourney experience and you need it quickly. Put down all the books and stop browsing websites, just start playing cheap MTT's, as many as you can before the weekend. Given that you're likely a tight player, you might be able to play 5 or 6 before the weekend rolls around.

Don't those pay out $2000 for the winner?

Thanks for all the info, i appreciate it. When i said "I've won the mini step a few times", i meant placed...sorry-2nd and 3rd.
Just trying to give a little insight on where i stand, so i can get the proper feedback.
Don't get me wrong, by no means was i trying to show off, or anything dumb like that. I'm a loser player, and will admit it.
I'll make $200 playing S&G's, but lose $250 in ring games

Little dissapointing
5th hour, 75 people left -top 17 get the $13,500 cruise package.
-I get KK, raise 4 X BB
-get a caller, flop was 459
- i push all in, he calls with A6 off.....
7 and a 8 come out.
Pretty tough beat, considering how close it was. He had a few hundred more chips then me.
Brave man to call with nothing. But his cards...
I would have been in 3rd if i won the hand, and well on my way.
