Don't think you can play this much differently, other than lower the turn bet to see how villain reacts, but if villain pushes AI you'll probably still call, so either way your chips are going to end up in the middle and you are just about a coinflip on the turn (at least that's the way it looks to me, maybe you're a little ahead), so, it happens

Hard to see how else you can go here.
I think it's just one of those that fate has conspired against you.
MP1 is the one doing all the chasing, and you were just unlucky that it was you that was quartered and not him.
