KQ on the button

I've been having trouble getting my head around KQ. I know I blew this one. Any tips on how to play it?

At this stage it may be easier to fold preflop.

Point well taken. I guess this is one of the harder hands to learn, but right now I'm playing low limits so I can get in there and learn.

Let me post what I was thinking and maybe someone can tell me if I need to go reevaluate a certain area.

Preflop I limped. There was a lot of raising going on. I was only raising with Level 1 hands and sometimes a couple level 2s. I didn't put him on AK because people were not shy about raising pre-flop, least of all him. PokerTracker labels him as a "gambler." He was very loose.

Postflop I put out a tester bet that was 50% of the pot. I figured the 2 who called to either have a K or be drawing for a straight.

After the turn I wanted to bet more to make drawing more expensive, but I was unsure with the 6s so I bet the dollar after the 2 checks. I would have folded to a reraise.

After the river I figured at least 1 of them didn't have anything and one of them probably had a K with a low kicker. I was a little worried about K6 or K4 since these guys were playing hands like that a lot. I figured I had a better chance of winning than losing, and they both started short-stacked so my exposure was limited, so I threw out the $3 bet. I didn't plan on Mr. Loose Fn Gambler to decide that was a good moment to get tricky. When he check-raised I put him on K4, which would have been consistent with a hand he would have stayed in with.

Not bad, except the flop bet was way too weak. I like a pot sized bet, perhaps even a little more. I don't see a problem with taking a flop with KQo, and you're having position is good too. Also, bet more on the turn. As it were, if I got called in two places on the turn, I'd most likely check the river UI. Call me a pansy, but that's how I'd play it.

I raise it up preflop then play as merv I think, bet more turn and check river unless the other guy is a callstation. If the board was drawless I would probably check turn and call/bet river instead.

The whole hand is atrocious. Your preflop play makes me throw up a little bit inside my mouth. The guy with AK is even worse.

1. Never limp with KQo. Raise it if you are first in, and you should probably fold it to any kind of a preflop raise, unless you are in position on the raiser.

2. Limping is terrible because it leaves everything up in the air. People could be in the pot with you hitting funky 2 pair hands, sets, trips, whatever. You have no idea where you stand.

3. You are playing KQ mainly for top pair good kicker situations. So, you want to be in control of the hand, and keeping the pot small when you are out of position.

Your best bet here is to just fold KQo preflop... although on this bad of a table, I would most likely raise it up even with those 2 limpers. They are most likely limping with garbage anyway.

Exactly how I would play it. Checking the river is best, you are most of the time only getting called by a better hand.

Thanks for the input! Yeah, AK played it like a true hero eh? Up till that hand he was very LAG.

This is a hand I would have folded in early position and bet in middle without callers. I'm understanding that in late position I need to be a good deal more aggressive with it. I've been burned with it a lot.

This should make ya go projectile Scottie. This is a combined result of a bad table I'll eventually get this money back from, a very irritating phone call just after the flop that I had to deal with, playing without paying attention without folding, and Paradise software bringing the table up over the spreadsheet I needed for the call every 2 freaking seconds, royally pissing me off and putting my brain on overload. Talk about horrible all around.

Extremely odd play by AK. I didn't see that coming. No preflop raise, no flop bet, no turn check-raise...he was TRYING to let you win, but he failed.

Villain was a maniac's maniac... went all in with 45 after a AK5 flop before, bet hard at scary boards trying to take it down. I didn't fear the jack at all.

Went more aggressive on this one. After playing barely a hand for 2 hours it really doesn't seem to intimidate anybody. I checked on the river cuz I couldn't figure out what the heck he had.

Hand 2: You need to raise more PF, and I am folding on this flop I really don't want to be drawing to a gutshot.
Hand 3: I like your river check behind, although in this situation we will probably be ahead, there is no garuntee he will pay off our VB.
