I was just perusing, and noticed Eruu's stud-related brag post. The only other variants I've played a little are Ohi and O8, but I find the variance very frustrating. Stud seems like a cool game, but I don't really have the patience to start from ground level as I did with HE.

My sum total of Stud knowledge is:

Chasers always lose (I think Norman Chad said this. Very sad.)

Play pairs, 3 to a straight, and 3-flushes only. (e.g. 2-flushes are garbage)

Yes, I think that's it.

So, looking for some advice on whether to/how to get started. And since polls are so much fun, we'll do that. Remember folks, your decision could change a life, so vote responsibly.

I think PLO8 and NL HE can be much more profitable than 7 card stud. I like having a bit of fun with stud, and it's a nice break from a normal game, but i think you can have much higher winrates at other games, and with less variance.

That's what would trip me up. I can never remember stuff like that. But Stud looks fun.

I lol'ed here. I only play 1-2 tables of HE even now. So no worries there. Thanks for the ideas, everyone.
