I need a new coat
by darinvg » Mon Nov 06, 2006 4:05 pm
Winter is coming in Boston. Right now I have a columbia coat that is OK but not as warm or trendy as I would like.
My main use will be to keep me warm waiting for the damn bus in the morning but it would be nice to have something that would look good for going out on the weekend as well. A third use would be for boarding this winter but I doubt I can find a coat to fit all of these needs. I can use the columbia coat for boarding w/ some other layers.
Anyone?

For all 3 approaches, I don't think you're going to be able to wing it unfortunately. A good ski coat needs an outer shell of waterproof fabric or Goretex. Both of those have the plastic type texture and generally don't look 'fashionable' as a regular wear
You can get a few jackets that look pretty decent and have good water resistant/proof qualities, but they're not going to cut it on the ski slope.
Personally, I think a wool peacoat is always a good look for being fashionable and holds well against most all weather.

Now there is something a conservative, a middle of the roader, and a liberal can all agree on! PEACOATS RULE!!!

I have something similar to that that I found at target. Here's a link. It's not exactly the same as mine, but close (I think mine was a clearance item). I like it a lot.

I'm with MJ, you need 2 different coats. None of the fashionable coats look great for skiing or boarding.
Please don't tell me that you only own 3 pairs of shoes.

I'm pretty low maintenance.
Shoes:
Sneakers
Black shoes
Brown shoes
I do have bowling shoes, cleats and boarding boots if you count them.
