Of the rather limited number of hands of stud I've played, I've never seen anyone pass up an opportunity to double bet. Not quite sure why you wouldn't, seems no reason 'not' to, actually.
I'm sure it's more complicated than that, but in general, double betting is good.

If I pair my door card and it's a small pair, I'm going to be weary of double betting since practically you're already up against a bigger pair (let's say you have 22-55, anyone with a higher door card might have you in trouble). Also, if it's one pair, that's another way to get yourself in trouble. Two small pair in Stud is not something I want to get juice crazy with.

Depends on what stage of the tourney, what your stack is, what the other players' stacks are, what are the other players showing, etc.
I'm going to have to be almost certain that I can take down the pot with this semi-bluff before I pull it off. I don't want to go spewing chips for a couple of antes. Normally in Stud, when I bluff, I follow through all the way. I don't like to represent strength and get called down and check out like a biznitch. This is why I try to pick my spots appropriately.

It definitely depends on who I'm up against. If some tighteys are in there, I'll bet and represent strength to steal the pot, however if loose cannons are in there, I'm not going to waste the effort. They're playing freaking go fish, they'll keep taking cards and I'll need to improve to trips or two pair before I let them have it. Of course, I'd like one of the two pair to be >TT.

So what you're saying is small pairs you single bet, and bigger pairs (eg. QQ) you will double bet?

Big pairs definitely double bet, 99<, however small one pairs that are showing, I check them if I'm worried about someone else already having a bigger pair.
