Dilemma?
by flipflop » Mon Jul 10, 2006 8:19 am
I played in a tournament at a casino in London on sunday and the structure was as follows
entries 24
chips £ 1500
blind levels startde 25/25 up every 20 minutes.
After just over an hour of play the blinds were 100,200 and i found myself with about 1000 chips as i just got complete junk at the beginning.
Anyways i manage to double up with aa vs ak and find myself on just over 2000 chips with 14 players left....still well behind the chip average.
Next hand I get dealt the following.
The action is folded until the player to the right of me raises 3 xx big blind to 600. His chip stack was just a bit lower than mine at about 1700.
I decide to reraise all in, he turns over
, i'm no poker expert but i am guessing thats about 50/50.
He flops an ace on the flop and goes on to win the hand leaving me with 300 chips..
The questions I have are....
1 - did i make the right move to rereaise all in.
2- was my strategy of playing tight all game waiting for the big hands the right one? The table seemed pretty loose and i am confident if I won that hand i could have gone on to at least get in the money.
3- As the amount of chips i am given is not a lot should i be going all in if i believe i am the leader of a pot on the turn. I did this quite a lot and as a result didn't accumulate as much chips as i could have if i slowplayed a bit more.

1. Yes, you did the right thing, I would have done the same. When you believe you have the best hand and your opponent's hand is strong (but you have the better of it), I think a push is great. The tournament structure doesn't give you much room to play.
2. Again, due to the nature of tournament structure, it's not always a luxury to wait around as you could just as well be completely card dead and end up going out with nothing.
3. One thing here, if there are some observant players at the table, they will soon pick up on this tell of you moving in on the turn frequently and you could easily be trapped. So you definitely don't want to fall into a pattern, you'd easily get picked off. Also, it depends on what you're holding here as well.
I hope this a little bit of help, there are guys on here better than me, who could probably give you much better advice.
P.S. QQ vs AK is not 50/50, you're actually ahead here something like 53/47.
