No real reads, villain is new to the table. I figured I had a big enough stack to start loosening up pf a bit, hence the call.

Seems pretty much fine to me. Consider raising the flop a bit so you can get it all in on the turn maybe? Bad beat.
If I were going to play that hand, I would also definitely raise preflop.

Why would I want to raise the flop and risk scaring out a pair or even a set? I have the nuts with no draw.

It's not like you are going to raise all in.
There is only one combination of cards (7,8 ) that makes a straight right now, so a set or 2-pair or even a wierd straight draw will probably call.
Also I don't know what buyin this is, but any overpair usually sticks around.
I didn't say it was incorrect not to raise it, just something to think about. I almost never slowplay, so that's something I would think about.
Also, if a 7 or 8 comes on the turn or river, either A.) your action is dead or B.) you are splitting the pot.
