Lets look at what we know and what our opponent could have.
First off, lots of limpers, so probably not a lot of made hands and I would doubt A-K or A-Q since they would have probably raised. Maybe A-J or A-10 as a possible limping hand. Other option would be suited connectors or medium PP like your 8s.
Flop action is a rainbow, so don't worry about the flush. There are 3 running cards, so I would be very worried about the straight. You made the right raise on the flop. You bet the pot, which should be enough to discourage people to draw for their straights. You get two callers, SO what hands could those people have that would limp in pre-flop and then call a potsized bet on flop? Well A-J would be an open end straight draw with an overcard. A-10 would be top pair top kicker. Suited Connector would be either straight draw or 2-pair.
Turn action brings out an Ace. You fired again for about 75% of pot and got raised big. Now what would he be raising with? Well, if he had A-J or A-10, he just hit top pair. If he had suited connector, I would not be as worried about the ace, in fact him pushing the ace instead of the flop would lead me to believe he had A-10 or A-J more than the straight.
River floats your boat. You pushed a value bet out and he pushed all-in. Not much you can do here really except call. You are pot committed and you have a very strong hand (A-10) beats you.
Did you play it right? Did you think you were behind when you were playing the hand? If not, then I would say you played it correctly. The flop was scary, but him waiting to push it on the turn was his mistake and not yours really. His deception worked to his detriment.
