Betting when you hit your draw
by ucbmoose » Mon Jul 10, 2006 8:30 pm
Ok, so I turned my straight, should I bet it or check? This has happened twice this session and I checked both times. So do you bet your draw, or check and then bet on river. I'm pretty sure I know but want some feedback.

This hand I'd be more apt to check call the flop.
Hand one: You have clean outs to the nut straight as well as an over.
Hand two: You have tainted outs to the ignorant straight with no overs and its a board that's likely to have lots of redraws to a full house against you.

1st hand -- def bet the flop and turn. What others haven't pointed out is that, even though you hit your straight, there are still draws against you. If a spade hits, you don't have the nut flush, and now a heart could kill you (and luckily it doesn't). Plus there are nut str8 draws against you, too. This is not a trap situation - you can't afford to check.
2nd hand - I still bet this flop as more of any info bet. I'll get a feel of who's on what draw or made hand - or at least that's the hope - while it's still cheap. Plus with only 2 others in the hand, I would think my heart flush is good even if it's 8-high. Check this turn...unless you have reads that say villains would call or even raise against you.
