More a general line question but there is a hand to go along with it. Here we go.
The action is as follows:
Blinds at 5-5 posted.
$600 SB
BB
UTG
UTG+1
MP
MP+1
MP+2
MP+3
CO
$450 OTB (Hero)
I am dealt
OTB. All fold to me and I raise to $20. SB folds and BB calls.
Flop ($45) comes
.
SB checks. I bet $30. SB thinks and calls.
Turn ($105) is
.
SB checks. I bet $65. SB thinks and calls.
River ($235) is
.
SB checks. I ... bet? Check behind?
Reads on villain are that he is a weak-tight nit.

Bet $120 and fold to a raise. But, would you usually bet AQ/KQ here?

I sorta agree with this. I had a big post typed up about why I thought checking was the right move. Basically it all boiled down to I hate getting called down by a tighty like this. I then never posted it because it seemed weak. I still might check though.

He's a nit but he is far from stupid. If I bet this river and fold to a push, how often is the tighty pushing with any pair because he sees me as spewing on three empty barrels?
And no I refuse to go to level 3 with NL500.

I'm a nit, I'm (hopefully) far from stupid. If I have any pair and think you're bluffing/spewing I just call. There is no point in raising a spewtard like you, you just decrease your calling standards a little. And if he's actually any good, then he won't have any better than you here because you would have heard from him earlier. But if he sees you as a lagtard who could be 3 barreling with AK, then that's all the more reason to bet, and in your book, hope that he raises.
I don't know what level 3 is.

FWIW, you can sometimes just check that flop behind, especially if you have a laggy image like yourself.
