$10+1 SNG Bubble play
by puckhead23 » Fri Dec 30, 2005 10:47 am
Read villain to be "average-average" (neither tight nor loose, neither passive nor aggressive; really in between). I figured he would be all-in with a pocket pair better than mine, so I figured on being either a coin toss or well ahead (turned out to be a coin toss).
I have been too passive on the bubble in the past, and I need to improve this in order to advance my game. I don't want to become too hyper and hurt my game either. In the past, I would have most likely called and saw a flop, since I was second in chips this close to the money. Losing this pot crippled me. Was this a good action on my part? Would anyone do anything differently?

Bubble play has to be my weakest link as well, but I would have pushed in here as well. You have a quality hand. Blinds are getting larger and larger. You have to make a move sometime and 10-10 is a decent enough hand to move with late in the tourney.

I move in here although a stop-n-go is fine also. I think his min raise shows more strength than if he moved all in but you still have to go with this hand. Also, this isn't the bubble because there are 5 players. You are on the bubble when it is 4 handed.

I think this is a great place for a stop-n-go. Your read on either high cards or a low-medium pocket pair is pretty good, and since you are first to act after the flop, I think you have better folding equity by doing a stop-n-go than by pushing pre-flop.
I agree that his min raise here is probably an attempt to get callers rather than a sign of weakness. Barring a disasterous flop for him, all of his money are going in the middle if he plays this hand. So the best way to get him to fold is by letting him see the flop, push regardless and hope he missed.
Not that it would have mattered on this flop anyway, with him flopping TPTK.
