Popularity: 7 of 10 - Good
Cake Poker, which operates under its own independent network (CakePoker), is one of the fastest growing online poker rooms. Cake accepts US players, which considering the current market, is one of the reasons it's off to such a great start. Another factor to consider when looking for a new site is Cake Poker's incredible rakeback offer of 33%, which returns players one-third of what they pay in rake.
Cake currently offers a variety of ring games, including Limit, Pot-Limit, and No-Limit Hold'em in addition to Limit and Pot-Limit Omaha Hi and Omaha Hi/Lo. The cash game tables aren't exactly overflowing with action, however most stakes do get consistent play, and there are definitely more than a few soft spots at the tables. Sit & Go tournaments are also a fairly popular option given their player base, with every limit up to $100 running solidly at peak hours. Cake offers regular 10-max, shorthanded, heads up and two table Sit & Go's, in both turbo and standard structures.
Although ring games and SNGs are solid options, it seems like Cake Poker is making a concentrated effort on becoming a premiere online tournament haven. Tournaments range from $.25 to $215, with field sizes varying from a few hundred to a couple thousand. They've also introduced daily guaranteed tournaments, with the most popular being a $109 $17.5K guarantee. Cake Poker is also in the process of developing their own Sunday major, a $250K guaranteed tournament that currently runs on the last Sunday of every month.
Security: 7 of 10 - Good
Cake Poker has a very thorough and responsible security system in place, which covers a wide variety of threats, including collusion, hackers, bots, and tracking prevention. The first three issues are, as they should be, an industry-wide protection standard. Cake has teams in place to run in-depth analysis on all reports from customers concerning any type of breach or suspicious activity, and more often than not, they're able to resolve the issue. In terms of tracking protection, however, Cake Poker is on the cutting edge of providing total anonymity to their players. Unlike every other poker site, Cake allows players to change their user-name once a week, thus preventing data-mining and sharing tools from tracking them. While this might be a sore spot for some players, Cake does still allow note-taking, and will save notes to the same user, regardless of how many times they change their name. Cake Poker strives to keep the game as fair as possible, and by implementing tracking prevention, they think they've leveled the playing field significantly more than other sites.
Player Competition: 7 of 10 - Fish Galore
Being a newer site that accepts American fish…err, players, you can certainly find a great deal of soft spots at almost an Cake Poker table you sit at. For our money though, we recommend the mid-stakes No-Limit Hold'em ring games.
Site Software: 9.5 of 10 - Excellent
Most new sites often require constant improvement, and while Cake Poker is no exception, the one area that doesn't need any tinkering is their interface. Cake hired a team of poker players and video game developers to hammer out their interface, and they've no doubt made their site as practical, user-friendly, and enjoyable as possible. The general look and feel of the tables, lobbies, and cashier are second to none. Action buttons are bigger, table tools and features are readily available, and avatars are unobtrusive. Stats and other relevant game selection information are easily accessible, and tournament lobbies provide players with all pertinent updates. Smooth and aesthetically pleasing, Cake Poker's software is easily their strongest suit.
Customer Support: 8 of 10 - Good
As far as we can tell, Cake Poker's customer support usually responds in a timely manner, and with useful information. Our sample size is rather small, but all of our test e-mails were returned within the hour. Cake's help desk has a few different departments, so be sure to send your query to the right one to ensure the quickest and most efficient response possible.

Company Integrity: 8 of 10 - Great
As mentioned in the security section, creating a high-quality gaming experience is Cake Poker's top priority. Unlike many other sites, Cake actually studied and analyzed different random number generator and shuffling systems using Technical Systems Testing and RNG certification. After the investigation, Cake decided on Microsoft's CryptoAPI RNG, which is an RNG so completely random that even a powerful amount of computer analysis cannot predict patterns in the output. All of Cake Poker's software and security measures have been validated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, which shows that Cake is no doubt a company that cares about their integrity, and that certainly deserves the respect of the poker community.
Site Promotions: 7 of 10 - Good
Cake Poker realizes that it needs to attract players before it can expand into an industry leader, and as such, they have a plethora of promotions available to new players. First, they have a 110% Initial Deposit Bonus up to $600, which can be worked off by earning FPPs in both ring games and tournaments. FPPs are earned as follows:
“For each dollar that is raked at a table where you are dealt cards, you will earn one Frequent Player Point (FPP). We are accurate to the penny, so if your table was raked $1.25, you will receive 1.25 FPP or if your table was raked $3.00, you will receive 3 FPP. Also, for each dollar worth of tournament fees you pay, you’ll earn 7 Frequent Player Points (FPP) for them once you’re done in the tournament.”
Cake has a variety of other bonuses, including a 50% Reload Bonus, Player Appreciation Days, various Freerolls, and a solid loyalty program which rewards players for racking up Gold Chips. Gold Chips can be accumulated by playing in both ring games and tournaments.
Perhaps Cake Poker's biggest hook to players looking for a new home is their amazing 33% rakeback offer. For tournament players who play on Stars (no rakeback), and Full Tilt (no rakeback on existing accounts), Cake Poker welcomes you with open arms and weekly rakeback payments. Using the Dealt Rakeback Method, Cake will calculate your rake by counting the number of times you are dealt a hand in a raked pot! For players who are not familiar with rakeback, it will essentially increase your income by 33% a week, and is a must have for all serious poker players. If you don't have rakeback, you are severely missing out.
